课程简介
This unit will introduce students to autonomous systems in general, autonomous vehicle (AV) system in particular, and its development. The unit will provide the fundamental system engineering knowledge of autonomous vehicle systems including the main building blocks, their design, integration and coordination to achieve the ultimate outcome of self-driving in a complex and uncertain environment. It will also cover and facilitate the learning in the further development of such systems through working and interacting with the actual autonomous vehicle and its testing and validation processes.

- ULO1 Describe the overall architecture of an autonomous vehicle (AV) system.
- ULO2 Apply learned concepts to design algorithms for different functionalities of the AV system, such as localisation, perception, planning and control.
- ULO3 Integrate and evaluate the AV system including testing and validation of algorithms and decision-making of the system.
- ULO4 Critically appraise the different aspects of the AV system and its interactions in the urban networks.
- ULO5 Effectively communicate findings, insights or professional recommendations to specialist and/or non-specialist audiences.

教学方式
Active learning - The unit is delivered in a flipped-classroom format which means that the lectures are recorded and are available in advance of the class except for a few guest lectures which will be delivered in class. You are expected to have reviewed the recorded materials along with other resources on Moodle prior to coming to class. Lecture material will not be repeated in class although some highlights will be discussed and there will be an opportunity to ask questions if concepts need clarification. You are expected to come to class prepared to engage constructively in the classroom sessions.
Problem-based learning - The main learning approach is problem-based learning which requires you to be involved with classroom activities as proactive learners.
预期工作量
The minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of 3-6 hours of scheduled learning activities and 6-9 hours of independent study per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher-directed learning, peer-directed learning and online engagement. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities.
