课程简介
This unit will develop four important inter-related themes associated with the detailed design of chemical equipment and processes. These themes are process safety, mechanical integrity, equipment selection, and process operability (including piping and instrumentation). These themes will be developed using a mixture of lectures, practice classes and a team-based detailed design project.

官方原文(Learning outcomes),版权属 Monash University。
- ULO1 Differentiate all the phases of a design project and explain the role of the chemical engineer in the detailed design stage and their relationship with the other design professionals.
- ULO2 Select suitable containment materials by explaining how chemicals are safely contained in a chemical process and corrosion mitigation.
- ULO3 Assess potential hazards using an industry-accepted framework and mitigate these hazards as part of the detailed design process.
- ULO4 Create engineering drawings used in the detailed design stage including P&I diagrams, equipment datasheets, general arrangement drawings and a site plot plan.
- ULO5 Compare different rotating equipment used in chemical processes.
- ULO6 Apply design rules for the specification of static equipment such as process vessels and heat exchangers with application of inherent safety, hydraulic and operability considerations and mechanical integrity.
- ULO7 Practise responsibility of a competent engineer to integrate individual design sections into a design project report including the analysis and review of engineering drawings and calculations. Through this activity, continue to develop positive attitudes to teamwork and responsible engineering practice.
教学方式与预期工作量
教学方式
Problem-based learning - This unit introduces students to detailed design of plant and equipment. Lectures, practice classes and weekly assessment will move quickly through the various topics. Students will then carry out their own design as a team which is submitted as a project at the end of the semester. This problem-based approach reinforces the content in a very practical manner.
预期工作量
The minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of 3-6 hours of scheduled learning activities and 6-9 hours of independent study per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher-directed learning, peer-directed learning and online engagement. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities.
