课程简介

In order to carry out any DNA manipulation a large variety of enzymes and specialised techniques are used. This unit will provide the opportunity to gain an understanding of the nature and use of the "tools of the trade" applied routinely by molecular biologists. A wide variety of applications will be explored, ranging from bioinformatics analysis of genes to production of recombinant proteins as biopharmaceuticals in bacteria.

教学方式与预期工作量

教学方式

Role play - You will play the role of scientific investigators and prepare a research proposal to investigate a particular gene of interest. You will apply the concepts acquired from the lectures and workshops to design suitable experiments, write a research proposal and showcase your work in a mini symposium within Monash University Malaysia.

Active learning - Active learning approach is adopted during lectures, workshops and laboratories. Information and concepts will be explained and complemented with case study, video and simulations. You are expected to participate in activities conducted during these live sessions. During the workshops, you are presented with a series of tasks which will further explore some of the major topics covered. This is an opportunity for you to gain practical understanding of the concepts discussed in the lecture/laboratories.

预期工作量

• One hour recorded video lecture;

• One hour workshop;

• Three hours of laboratories and

• Seven-hours of independent study per week.
