课程简介
This unit introduces students to the fundamental principles of microbiology and immunology, with a particular focus on their relevance to pharmaceutical sciences. Students will engage with topics such as epidemiology, host-pathogen interactions, and strategies for controlling microbial growth and transmission with physical, chemical and pharmacological methods. The unit introduces specialised discipline-based laboratory techniques to develop practical skills, and foster critical thinking through the integration of microbiological and immunological concepts applied to real-world scenarios.

- ULO1 apply the fundamental concepts of microbiology and immunology, to solve problems involving microscopy, microbial physiology, genetics, epidemiology and host-pathogen interactions
- ULO2 demonstrate a range of microbiology and immunology-based laboratory techniques and relate experimental results to theoretical concepts
- ULO3 demonstrate an appreciation of factors involved in contamination control, control of infectious diseases, and the processes of pathogenesis
- ULO4 compare and contrast different viral replication strategies of bacterial and mammalian viruses
- ULO5 design and report experimental investigations in a way that is consistent with the conventions of the discipline.
