课程简介

This unit introduces you to fundamental concepts and principles of medicine across the four themes of the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (MD) curriculum: Theme I (Personal and Professional Development), Theme II (Society, Population, Health and Illness), Theme III (Scientific Basis of Clinical Practice) and Theme IV (Clinical Skills).

You will begin to develop the knowledge and skills required by a medical student. Content is organised to assist you to further develop and apply core learning in integrated active teaching workshops in order to consolidate the key knowledge, concepts and skills for later years of study in the medicine course.

ULO1 Identify the ethical, professional and personal responsibilities and behaviours consistent with good clinical practice and professional codes of practice.
ULO2 Define the fundamental legal responsibilities and ethical principles for good clinical and professional practice.
ULO3 Outline key concepts in population health, epidemiology and measurement of health and disease in populations including social, ethical, economic and environmental factors.
ULO4 Name the differing health care professionals and their role in patient care.
ULO5 Identify factors that can impact on the health, wellbeing and access to health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families and communities.
ULO6 Describe the biological, psychological, social factors and clinical concepts relevant to health and illness across the human lifespan.
ULO7 Elicit histories and perform physical examination for specified systems and perform clinical procedures in simulated environments.
ULO8 Collate and interpret clinical findings in order to develop a simple list of differential diagnoses and outline management principles for common core conditions.

Note: This is a 24 credit point unit delivered across a full year which equates to a 12 credit point workload per semester.

In each semester you will be provided with 12 hours of teacher directed study per week including tutorials (8 hours) together with applied sessions and practical activities (4 hours) each week, plus 12 hours of on-line and self-directed study.

Total per week = 24 hours
