课程简介

This unit focuses on the types and incidence of mental health issues and their effects on the individual, family and community. It examines a variety of issues around trauma and grief, addictions to alcohol, drugs, and other mental health issues. In this unit you will examine how declining mental health can affect feelings, thoughts and actions and you will be introduced to a number of therapeutic approaches.

  1. ULO1 demonstrate an understanding of mental health issues
  2. ULO2 demonstrate an understanding of the main issues in grief and trauma counselling and the application of models of assessment to counselling practice
  3. ULO3 develop and analyse the impact of substance abuse and dependency
  4. ULO4 develop an understanding of assessment techniques for use with grief, trauma and addictions
  5. ULO5 examine the current counselling issues for trauma, grief and addictions.

教学方式

Active learning - You will be provided with the opportunity to engage with relevant literature and resources. Further, you will be encouraged to deepen your understanding of topic areas through collegial discussion and debate, and by participating in activities designed to extend your understanding.

预期工作量

Minimum total expected workload equals 144 hours per semester comprising:

(a.) Contact hours for on-campus students:

• 36 hours of engagement in online, face-to-face or blended platforms over the semester

(b.) Additional requirements (all students):

• Independent study to make up the required minimum hours during the semester.
